New Season Figs

We have a small fig tree in the back yard and I knew our first figs were close.  We had lost the first few to the birds, notwithstanding netting, so tonight I was pleased to pick the first few.

So to find a recipe for figs.  Did a search via www.eatyourbooks.com and this threw up 230 options of which the very last one was a fig salad from Happy Days with the Naked Chef called The Easiest Sexiest Salad in the World, the recipe for which can be found here

Simple and yummy is good but this salad really fit the bill tonight as we had our first figs, we had buffalo mozzarella left over from pizzas, we had just been given some fresh honey from hives in a friend’s neighbours backyard and we grow our own basil and lemons.  Only the parma ham needed to be sourced.  Who knows, by the end of this year I may have tried something along these lines as well.

My neighbour has 3 fig trees on the side naturestrip, all are laiden with fruit, but as yet – only the odd one has been ripe enough to eat. I go out each day to check if figs are ready. Now I have an extra reason — to try this salad. It looks delicious – thanks for sharing.

  2. We make this salad all the time, and I think the description is correct, it is the sexiest salad in the world! The neighbour has two fig trees, but this year he lost a lot to the bats.

Now that is my kind of food. Looks awesome. Must plant a fig tree.
